In November 2016, the then Australia and New Zealand Ministerial Forum on Food Regulation (the Forum, now known as the Food Ministers’ Meeting) agreed for work to commence on identifying next steps in relation to naming sources of fats and oils to support consumers to make informed choices consistent with Australian and New Zealand dietary guidelines.
In April 2017 the Forum agreed to extend the scope of this project to cover all parts of the food label, including the identification of all fats and oils.
As part of this work, in March 2018 Food Standards Australia New Zealand completed a literature review on consumers’ knowledge, attitudes and behaviours relating to fats and oils and fats and oils labelling. This review considered evidence up to August 2017.
