National food safety audit implementation framework - consultation report

The Implementation Sub Committee (ISC) of FRSC is developing a National Food Safety Audit Implementation Framework. The Framework is aimed at promoting national consistency in the management of food safety auditors and auditing under both the health and primary industry portfolios.

Between June and August 2005, ISC sought comments from interested parties on options for the Framework. These included comments on the approval and management of food safety auditors, and audits under food safety legislation.

A draft implementation framework has been developed and a further round of consultation on the proposed approach was undertaken, before submitting it to the Ministerial Council for endorsement.

ISC then in May 2006 under took a second round of consultation as part of the development of a national framework (Framework) for managing food safety audits and auditors. This framework will be used by food regulators as the basis for their own arrangements to support the implementation of food safety programs and food safety auditing requirements.
