Aims

To review the operational processes of the food regulation system to make it more agile and responsive. The processes include:

  • the roles and responsibilities of the various committees and subcommittees and their governance
  • interactions with other relevant government forums
  • prioritisation of work
  • resourcing and record keeping.

Status

This activity is complete with a new strategic planning process implemented in 2025, including publication of the Strategic Plan 2025 – 2028. Changes were also made to internal system governance to enhance effective and efficient delivery of system objectives, including establishing the FRSC Planning Subcommittee to oversee system planning, performance and prioritisation activities. 

Additional operational changes are being considered through the related but separate review of the Food Standards Australia New Zealand 1991 Act and Food Regulation Agreement review
