As part of the activity to review the FSANZ Act, a scoping paper was developed to outline:

  • the issues and opportunities in the scoping paper
  • the impact these could have.

Why the government is consulting

In November 2019, the food ministers endorsed an ambitious plan to reform the joint food regulation system to keep it strong, robust and agile.

The FSANZ Act review supports this reform agenda. The review started in July 2020 and includes a comprehensive examination of the:

  • effectiveness of the FSANZ Act
  • related operations and responsibilities of FSANZ.

Outcomes

The Australian Government will consider and analyse submissions to refine the issues and potential reform ideas.

March 2021 update

The consultation outcomes informed the development of a draft regulatory impact statement.
