Aims
To review the operational processes of the food regulation system to make it more agile and responsive. The processes include:
- the roles and responsibilities of the various committees and subcommittees and their governance
- interactions with other relevant government forums
- prioritisation of work
- resourcing and record keeping.
Leads
The New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries, on behalf of the Food Regulation Standing Committee.
Authorisation
The ministers agreed to:
- reform the food regulation system at their November 2019 meeting
- key actions to progress reform efforts at their December 2021 meeting, including actions to review system operations.
Status
This activity is in the scoping and delivery phase.
Completed work
At their December 2021 meeting, the ministers endorsed the implementation plan for a strategic planning cycle.
Development of the Strategic Plan for 2024–27 is now underway.
