The aim of this model is to promote greater confidence in the standard development and adoption process. It clarifies the process for industry and government and the assistance that is available to all in the adoption of standards.

This model:

  • helps to ensure a nationally consistent approach to implementing and enforcing primary production and process (PPP) standards
  • provides tools to help businesses comply with PPP standards
  • provides advice to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) during the standards development process.

When food ministers consider approving a PPP standard, this model gives confidence that:

  • the standard can be consistently implemented in all jurisdictions
  • guidance is available to industry to comply with the standard.
