Aim

To develop guidance materials on the regulation of:

  • products containing pure or high concentrations of caffeine
  • high caffeine content products.

These will be for enforcement agencies to inform compliance action.

Leads

The Implementation Subcommittee for Food Regulation is the lead for this activity.

Authorisation

In July 2019, Ministers Colbeck and Hunt requested Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) prepare a report on the safety of:

  • caffeine powders
  • high caffeine content products.

Status

The Food Regulation Standing Committee has set up a working group to undertake this work.

This activity is on hold pending the outcome of FSANZ Proposal P1056 – Caffeine Review.
