Description:

This paper found that option 4 – quantify added sugars in the Nutrition Information Panel (NIP) – had the greatest potential. This is because it:

  • best meets the desired outcome
  • provides a net benefit.

Costs related to option 4 are minimised because the NIP is already part of the food label.

This paper also found that applying option 6 – a pictorial approach – to sugary or sugar-sweetened beverages was worth considering.

This paper draws on the feedback from the consultation on the labelling of sugars on packaged foods and drinks.
